PAN-ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY PRESS WEBSITE

 We respect your privacy. This summary of our privacy policy contain the most important and relevant points for you. Please read the full privacy policy because it applies to you.

Purpose of collecting and using data

Collecting your data serves to provide you with user-friendly, efficient and secure internet services. We collect personal data whenever you visit the “Shopping Cart” area on the website. We use the personal data in order to provide those users who are interested with information. Furthermore, we generally process the data with the goal of improving our service and ensuring its security.

Furthermore, whenever you complete transactions in the webshop, e.g. opening a user account and / or purchasing a publication, further data processing operations may take place for the purpose of providing to you the services you have requested and fulfilling our contractual obligations with you. We use personal data for the performance of the contract we have with you and to provide the contract services to you.

Personal information

Personal information includes:

  • certain information that we collect automatically when you visit our website;
  • certain information collected on registration;
  • certain information collected on submission; and
  • optional information that you provide to us voluntarily;

But excludes:

  • information that has been made anonymous so that it does not identify a specific person;
  • permanently de-identified information that does not relate or cannot be traced back to you specifically;
  • non-personal statistical information collected and compiled by us; and
  • information that you have provided voluntarily in an open, public environment or forum including any blog, chat room, community, classifieds, or discussion board (because the information has been disclosed in a public forum, it is no longer confidential and does not constitute personal information subject to protection under this policy).

 How we use the personal information we collect

When you register with this site and/or place an order, we need to know your name, delivery address, credit or debit card number and expiry date, email address and telephone number. This information allows us to fulfill your order and notify you of the status of your order. All orders are fulfilled using a third party service provider and we will therefore pass on your details to that service provider so that they can deliver your goods to you. That third party service provider has undertaken to us that they will protect that information, will not pass it on, and not use it for any other purpose than to deliver your ordered goods to you.

We may also ask you to give us optional contact information, for example your mobile number and demographic information like your age.

If you subscribe to our mailing lists for pre-orders and other information, you will be asked to specify the areas in which you are interested so that we can tailor the information which we send to you to cover the topics and books which we believe you might be interested in.

We may, from time to time, send with your ordered products, inserts advertising the goods or services of unrelated third party companies. We do not pass on your personal data to these third party companies.

We may also use your information for the purpose of providing you with information about any special offers, signings and other events or features of our website which we think may be of interest to you and for related marketing purposes.

We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our website.

Your IP address is also used to help identify you and your details on our database.

We monitor customer traffic on an aggregate basis in order to help us develop and improve our website for the benefit of our customers. In order to enhance your use of the website you will be given a session ID which will only last for the duration of that visit to the site. Each time you visit the site you will have a different session ID.

By submitting your information you consent to the use of that information as set out in this Policy. If we change our Privacy Policy we will post the changes on this page so that you may be aware of them. We will also email you should we make any changes and give you a chance to ask us not to use your information in that way. Because the Internet infrastructure is global, and it is not possible to predict the routes that information sent over the Internet will take. By submitting your information you consent to this transfer.

The form and scope of collecting and processing personal data

a) Newsletter

If you wish to receive a newsletter we need to save and use your e-mail address. We will then send electronic messages at appropriate intervals to the e-mail address you gave us, which may also contain topic-specific advertisements along with editorial information on our products and services. However, you can unsubscribe at any time.

b) Contract

In addition to that, we will use personal data you provided to us for concluding and carrying out contractual agreements that you conclude in the webshop. We may in particular use your name and/or e-mail address for creating digital watermarks, i.e. to mark digital content (eBooks and ePapers) that you have purchased subscribed to in our online shop. We also reserve the possibility to prevent misuse by marking an eBook or ePaper using other methods which are not necessarily evident to the customer. We will explicitly point out such marking of a product in the description of the respective product. Content where no mention of identification marks is made will not be marked using personal data.

c) Web usage analysis

We will use tools of third parties in order to create so-called utilization profiles by using a pseudonym if you visit our websites as a registered or unregistered user. This implies that data will be collected and saved anonymously or under a pseudonym for statistical, marketing and optimization purposes. This data includes information on the website from which you were taken to our offer, information on your internet service provider and the offers you viewed on our website, as well as the date and length of your visit. On the basis of this data a utilization profile will be created, along with a corresponding pseudonym. For this purpose, cookies may be used (see subparagraph 5 below).

d) Log files

Our web server does not generally store information when persons visit our website. Only if an error, other technical problem occurs or if a visitor carries out an action, certain data will be stored in what is known as log files. A log file contains the time and date when an error or the event (e.g. click) occurred. In our log files we furthermore store IP addresses of website visitors. We collect and store log files for security reasons to be able to identify, investigate and stop any improper use of our portal.

Passing on data to third parties

As a general rule, personal data will only be disclosed to third parties:

  • if and to the extent necessary for the performance of the contracts we have with you or in order to enforce any claims we are entitled to,
  • if you have given your consent to such disclosure,
  • if we are required by law or ordered by a court to disclose such information or,
  • if such information is requested by government agencies, including, without limitation, law enforcement and supervisory authorities, if and to the extent is necessary to remove a risk to public safety and order and to prosecute criminal offences.
