Pan-Atlantic University Press to publish Journal of Creative Media
Nigeria’s leading scholarly publisher, Pan-Atlantic University Press (PAU Press) will be publishing the Journal of Creative Media (JCM). This followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between PAU Press and Centre for Media and Communication Research (CMCR), School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University on November 7, 2023. CMCR are the managers of the journal.
The MoU was signed by Dr Nwachukwu Egbunike, Head of PAU Press and Dr Nelson Okorie, Associate Professor and Director of CMCR. Mr Tolu Olagunju, CMCR’s Research Manager and Mr Michael Shima, PAU Press Officer witnessed the event.
There is a dearth of top-notch media and communication journals within Sub-Saharan Africa. The Journal of Creative Media intends to bridge this gap by advancing global scholarly conversations within the creative media industry.
Dr. Nelson Okorie stated that JCM will promote multidisciplinary research within the creative industries. It will also contribute valuable knowledge about using media systems and communication structures to advance policy and sustainable development in Africa. Furthermore, JCM will serve as a repository of academic and industry knowledge in media studies in the global community.
Dr Nwachukwu Egbunike noted that these considerations informed Pan-Atlantic University Press decision to adopt JCM as their pioneer journal publication. The JCM sponsors “provided a clear knowledge gap the journal will fill and a detailed timeline for acquiring the scholarly accreditations like Web of Science and Scopus”, asserts Dr Egbunike.
This heralds a significant expansion for Pan-Atlantic University Press, which since its establishment in 2017 had focused on publishing academic book titles. The publication of peer-reviewed journals is driven by the research and scholarship objectives of PAU’s Strategic Plan. This five-year strategic plan gained impetus under the leadership of Professor Enase Okonedo, the Vice Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University.
